new years eve in petersburg

2009- yes, i celebrated my first new years eve in russia. First angelika and me planned to spend the night in the city, but instead we cancelled our plans and stayed at home with her grandma. Her neighbours invited us to eat and drink with them. The hightlight of the evening was the speech of the russian president J Now its 3 o clock and i can still hear fireworks on the streets. Maybe they are celebrating german christmas now aswell. Anyway, even tough i didnt experience the famous firework and concert in the city, i really liked to spend the night with these awesome russian ladies. One of them is already 94!!! Image that.
I already recognized that life here really differs to german or australian life, but i still like it. There are many things to complain about- dirt, people are sometimes unfriendly, its cold...- but everywhere you go, you can feel the russian heart and thats what make russia a unique country.
